The date night challenge

Tonight is the first official date night I have had with my husband since beginning this journey.  Tonight will be for part business and part pleasure.  The business part:  we’ll be meeting with our Realtor to see the house again and talk house stuff.  We’re going to decide just how long we want to wait out this short sale before deciding to move on.  All of this will take place over drinks.

I am taking the time to prepare for date night.  That includes trying out the new acne products I purchased a few days ago. I really want to be fresh-faced for my date.

So, i’m taking some care to have a strategy in place for myself in regards to both food and drink tonight.  I want to make sure that I will make the right choices.  If I tried this on the fly, I don’t know that I would be as successful with it.  So I am trying to plan as much as possible.

How do you handle “date night” with your significant other?  Do you set boundaries for yourself ahead of time?  Do you wing it?  Do you choose date nights as the only night you splurge?

  1. ha ha! I’m having date night tonight, which almost NEVER happens. No one ever wants to watch my three kids. We always joke, when it was just the one, grandma was like “sure, no problem”. Then when we had two, it was more like… “okay, that should be alright…” Then when we had the third, it’s more like “No way in hell!”

Anyway, thank goodness my mom is volunteering for what I’m sure will be a lot of fighting, yelling, running and general chaos. :)

I am a fan of beer. Dark brews, etc., I love them. Last November I had several and instantly gained. I’m not doing beer tonight. I might just do diet soda. My trainer told me to try vodka and cranberry juice. Apparently he gets wasted on those and they won’t affect my weight loss. Heh. We’ll see. I might just have *one*. LOL

  2. I still set limits when I go out, both with friends and my hubby. For me, it helps me enjoy my evening without stressing over food and being able to enjoy our time together.

Have a wonderful date night. John and I are much overdue for one!

  3. Wish I could help you, but we haven’t yet had a date night since we started dieting. I can tell you we’re planning a weekend at the hotel where we married for our first wedding anniversary in March, but I fully plan to eat whatever I want that weekend. I imagine we’ll work it off. ;-)

Seriously, I think what Karen suggested is your best bet. Scope out the restaurant ahead of time and decide what you’re going to have. If you take the guesswork out of it, then you won’t be tempted by tasty poisonous things. :-)

  4. I hope your date night last night went well!

I had a “date” with hubby a week ago Friday and while I did much better than normal with the food, it was far from perfect. He is trying to support me, but doesn’t truly get what I “need” for support from him.

Hope you had a good time!

  5. Sunday night is our usual date night. We pick this night to splurge. But it has to be either dinner or dessert. We don’t splurge on both things at the same time. Last week we went out for pizza, we shared a medium vegetarian, it was a bit high in fat and calories so we chose to skip the after dinner goodies. And next week we will have a nice salad for dinner then go out for icecream on our date. :)
