I know that there are many weight loss programs out there. All of them are designed for people to succeed (unless you are talking about the cabbage soup diet or some other diet fad — those should really be used as a temporary weight loss solution– if at all. And fat loss supplement are also in a different category. ). And I fully believe that everyone needs to choose what works for them. I don’t think that diets or losing weight can be put in a little one-size-fits-all for everyone. Because people are different. Metabolisms are different. Tastes are different.
However, I just have to tell you how much I LOVE Weight Watchers! I like the fact that I can easily count points (or not — if I choose to go core …. err filling foods). I love the fact that all activity counts.
Today, I skipped breakfast so that I could have a bigger lunch. I went shopping with my mother-in-law at Bed Bath and Beyond for some odds and ends for the new house. We stopped at Logan’s Roadhouse for lunch. I did really well with my choices other than having 2 yeast rolls (which totaled up to be 11 points! Yikes!). My lunch was 29 points (I get 36 points a day). And thankfully, the meal was really filling.
I had to Google the nutrition information for Logan’s Roadhouse. My old standby dwlz.com did not have it listed in their “restaurants” area. But i’m proud of myself for facing my choices and totaling up the points. Granted, 29 points for one meal is NOT a regular for me. At most, I try to stick to between 11 points (on the high side) and 4 points (on the low side).
We did lunch first and then walked around a few stores. I’m glad we did it in that order so that I could get a little exercise in afterwards.
Still, if it hadn’t been for Weight Watchers point system and the fact that I am tracking what I eat, I really don’t know that I would have paid attention to it.
For me, the accountability is what is so great about Weight Watchers. Part of the program is to write down what you eat (or record it in some-way. I think memorizing works for some people) and also to record how hungry you were before you ate and after you ate, as well as any feelings associated with eating before you eat.
For me, this weight loss plan is easy peasy. And I am ALL about easy peasy! Believe me.
What weight loss plan are you on (if any at all)? How do you like it?
I love weight watchers too. So glad you are doing well on it. We are in a bit of a money crunch so I am doing a weight loss program through a church called First Place For Health. It focuses on 4 facets of a person: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. the nutritional guidlines are based on the government’s food pyramid. It is working really well for me. I know that my weight watcher background (sounds funny to call it that, but I have been to a *few* meetings!) is really helping me. I still recall little things I picked up at a meeting or remember the amount of calories, etc. in items from my point counting days.

Keelie, there are places all over the internet that contain Weight Watchers information (for free!). If you ever want a list of those places, let me know!
When we were low on funds, I would go to these websites and follow the program using that. Shoot— I may have to do that again!
But still… I am so glad that you found something that works for you! The program you are in sounds really healthy and very supportive! How often do you attend the meetings?

I have done WW a couple of times. The first time I got to lifetime and never went back. Which I really regret. Now I am on my third time with South Beach. That makes it sound like it doesn’t work for me but it is just like WW… I reach my goal, but then stop “dieting.” So now I am finally waking up to the idea that the plan you follow is not as important as following it for the rest of your life!

A lot of people have told me I need to do weight watchers – i just hate paying the fee – so i haven’t ever done – i probably should bite the bullet and take the plunge – there are many success stories with that program

I totally tried the cabbage soup diet once! Well, I tried it for half a day, and then I ate a pizza!
I’m glad you have a program that you love, and works for you! I’ve heard nothing but good things about WW!
Hope you have a great weekend!

Kellie, I’m so glad that it’s working well for you! I believe that no matter what plan or way of eating that you pick, it will work for you if you make up your mind to do it and do it right. It sounds like you’ve already done that and you’re succeeding well. Congrats!

I really like your blog. I just found it off of Tylers 344 blog. I will have to go back and read more of it!
I also can’t spend the money on weight watchers, and have tried deiting in the past. I’m glad you are having so much success with it! Another blog I follow lost 50+ pounds on it also!
My New Plan this year is eat LESS exersice MORE(for me AT ALL is the same as more). I think it is the only thing that will work for me. Since I am DONE depriving myself, I eat what I want but not to much. My Motto is ONLY ONE lol. Like slices of pizza, ONE not FIVE like it used to be. I have lost 15 pounds so far so it’s working for me, slowly but steady.

I’ve been doing calorie counting but I had to stop. I was getting crazy obsessed with the numbers in and then the numbers out through exercise. So I’m trying to find something that makes sense and doesn’t cost money. I wouldn’t mind seeing some of those free sites you mentioned! Truthfully I thought I could just keep eating the same stuff in the same portions as when I was counting calories but as it turns out, I need some accountability.
But I’m so happy you’ve found something easy peasy for you because easy peasy is how to make it a success!

i do weight watchers too. i love it! i was toying with the idea of going core/simply filling, but i have decided to cut all fat free frankfoods out of my diet. the only fat free product i will buy anymore is skim milk, and that’s because i prefer it. so simply filling won’t work for me because i am not willing to use up all my 35 wpa on my dairy. that’s me being stubborn, simply filling works well for alot of people! so i count points, but i use lots and lots of simply filling foods. i like that while you can use your points on crap if you want to, ww encourages you to meet all the healthy guidelines in a day, so many fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc. if you do that right, and stick to your points allowance, there’s no way it won’t work! for me at least.

that last part didn’t make sense, sorry. yes, you can use your points on crap if you want to, but ww discourages that. they encourage you to eat healthy foods. but… if you have a day where you just HAVE to have some crap, you can count the points for it and move on with your life, no need to beat yourself up for not being perfect. does that make more sense?

I’m glad it’s working out for you! Any program that works for you is a good one.
I tried WW once, but I hate counting points. So i just eat healthy food when I’m hungry and don’t have any sort of plan to follow.

Bill, you are absolutely correct, it shows that you’re an authority on the subject. I admire someone that takes the pride you have and with your projecton of information. oSo when i actually do sit down to read material, I appreciate well written and organized blogs like this one. I have it bookmarked and will be back. Thanks.
