Quick diets
There is such a thing as quick weight loss diets. But those are probably best for those who want to lose a quick 30 pounds or less.
In fact, when I think of the term diet… I think of quick weight loss. I don’t really see that it could be long term (although I am sure it is a long term solution for some).
I remember my first quick-diet was the so-called Mayo Clinic diet. I could only drink coffee, tea or water (doesn’t sound bad). I remember being really limited with food choices (peanut butter toast, boiled eggs, beets..etc.). I did it for a week and lost 15 pounds. I was 16. I gained the 15 pounds back plus. But people noticed the weight loss and it felt good (even if the diet felt like torture).
The second quick-diet I tried was the apple-diet. I ate apples all day long with the exception for dinner. I also loaded up on water. I lost about 10 pounds and gained it back. I was too hungry to stay on that diet.
And then there was the cabbage soup diet. Who could forget that? Awful (at least in my opinion) tasting soup that you were *allowed* to eat as much as possible of on all of the given days. Oh joy. I remember being gassy on that one and quit after just a few days. However, many (in my family) who were on that diet lost between 30 and 50 pounds. But of course… the weight came back with a vengeance.
I am not on a quick-diet now. I am on a long-term weight loss plan. And you know what? I am rarely ever hungry.
What are some quick diets that you have tried? How did they make you feel?

I’ve gone on all sorts of quick diets… to eating NOTHING but fruit, to eating a ton of cabbage soup! I’m so glad I got off that un-healthy roller coaster, and learned to simply eat healthier! For the fist time, it’s actually a lifestyle change, and not some quick fix!

I forgot about the Mayo diet… I think I did that one too. Sadly, there is no quick way.

I never tried any of the quick diets and I never did Weight watchers or Jenny Craig or any of those. I did Atkins for a long time, and a lowcarb/lowfat plan called the Stillman Diet. Both helped me realize that I was addicted to carbs and sugar. When I went back to my old ways of eating, the pounds packed on again and brought friends.

I remember doing one where I drank over a gallon of water a day, and ate a piece of boiled chicken and steamed broccoli four times a day..that was it. I was losing weight like crazy..for about two weeks when boiled chicken at 7 am just wasn’t doing it for me anymore.
Changing the lifestyle sure is challenging, especially when my life keeps changing! LOL

oh my gosh! low carb/atkins, calorie-restriction, fat-gram restriction, the mayo clinic diet…. i remember on that one i dieted with a co-worker and she quit early on (so did i) saying if she ate one more broccoli floret she was going to hurl. she promptly ordered a pizza, and i don’t blame her. i know there are others but i can’t remember them right now.
i lost 80 lbs and kept it off for 7 years eating one meal a day, but i think that messes with your blood sugar.

OH BOY!!! I did the Metabolic Research Diet. I started in October 2008 and lost nearly 30 pounds by December. Then December 15th I started getting hives. My lips would swell up and I was getting chest pains. After quitting the diet (that required that I drink up to 3 of their whey protein drinks per day) the hives continued. I was miserable. My Dr. was NO help. I had hives and lip swelling and swollen fingers and eye lids and feet…it was really, really miserable. I had that for 6 months. I was very depressed and I thought I was going to have hives for the rest of my life. I was searching and searching for the cause. I finally made the connection….I was having an allergic reaction to milk whey. All those dratted whey protein drinks….it was like I was drinking poison. I could go on and on and on and on! Any way I cut milk out of my diet, had a few scares with foods that had just trace amounts of milk. Swollen lips and having a hard time breathing (the chest pains…not my heart, not my Gall Badder, it was my lungs) I thought I was going to have to use my Epi-Pen….scary! No milk for 4 months….and I tried a little bit of cheese and did ok….and tried a few things here and there and I can have milk now. That “DIET” screwed my body up SO BAD!!! and I gained ALL and MORE of the weight back, of course !!
Here is a link to the blog I started about it: http://goodbyedairy.blogspot.com/ There are photos of my swollen face and finger towards the bottom of the page.
Sorry for the novel…this is the short version .. hahahah
Thanks, I love your blog!!

I’ve tried the cabbage soup diet more than a few times. I only do the week long version that is more of a cleanse than a weight loss though. I’ve never lost anymore than 10lbs in a week though and it has jump started some serious weight loss. Never for long term though. I tried a no chocolate diet for 28 days. I ended up heavier after the fact. Which of course made me think I should eat more chocolate! And now I’m even heavier! oh dear.

I completely agree- any diet that calls for you to do things that you can’t do for the rest of your life just doesn’t make sense and won’t lead to long-term results. Nice to be reading your blog again- missed you!
